Update #13 Walk of Hope

Did we meet you yesterday at the Walk for Hope down in Long Beach, CA? We met a ton of people and shared the film trailer along with lots of info about the movie. It was so awesome to hear other people's stories and everything they went through or are going through to put their families together.

Coming from a production background, I was prepared to talk cameras and codecs and workflow and all that other production nerd stuff that producers talk about when discussing projects. This was just talking about our story and listening to other stories. And it all felt normal. And that was great. Making something that sucks and is tough and life-altering into something that can be in a NORMAL conversation.

So thanks for coming out yesterday if you made it. If you're just hearing about us for the first time, welcome. Please take a second to sign up for the mailing list or follow us on Twitter or like us on Facebook. Or just keep checking the website.

Also, have a great Monday.

Update #12 Family dinners and codec talks

Great meeting with the ONE MORE SHOT team tonight. Family-style dinners are way more effective than conference calls and email chains.

Tonight we had a full team meeting to discuss production, post-production, and our fundraising plans. We've decided to push back the fundraiser until we have not only a bad-ass trailer to share, but most of the film cut, too. And we're going to be sharing exclusive scenes and moments from the film right here along the way.

We are serious about ONE MORE SHOT being a voice for the infertility community. That voice needs to be loud and strong and it needs to be able to grow. So we're going to roll this out in a way that will allow us to connect with other great people in the infertility community. We're not going to rush this just to get money to finish it. It may take a us a little longer but it will allow us to meet new people who can help spread the word of the film, just as we hope to spread the world of people's amazing infertility struggles and the unbelievable things others have gone through to make their family.

Stay with us. It's about to get good.

Update #10

I've been working on artwork for the doc. We're going to need a poster or logo at some point. How do you fit two years of shooting and a whole lot of pain, suffering, and hope into a tiny little icon badge?  Here's an early look. It won't be the final version but I wanted to let you know what we've been up to.

Update #9

The needles. Not pictured: the damage done.

Medication is expensive. It can be painful, too. Each empty syringe represents an injection of progesterone. One at morning and one at night. I've gotten very good at giving shots. My wife has unfortunately gotten good at receiving them. If you can't make a baby the old fashioned way, this is one way to do it.

Update #8

Yesterday morning I met with our two editors - Paul and JC - for a breakfast meeting. Powered by a morning serving of chicken and waffles, we came up with some great ideas for the new fundraiser trailer, and for the doc as a whole. We are looking at ways to incorporate Maya's blog into the project. She's found such a great community of support through the blog that it seems only right that we include elements of it in telling our story. Stay tuned for more. Also, if you haven't already, please subscribe to the info list. We'll send you lots of info but not in an annoying way.

Happy Friday,

Update #7

If you're reading this ... Thank you. If you're reading this, hopefully you're reading this on a computer. That would mean the website is running smoothly. It's supposed to be. Let us know if you're having trouble with the site.

Anywho, JC and Paul are working on the fundraiser trailer. If you've seen the extended trailer, the fundraiser trailer will feel familiar. But, y'know, better.

Today, Maya and I are going to do some update interviews. This coming week is a big one for our embryo and for the movie. Interviews will help get some new perspective on everything we've got going on.

Please keep checking the site and letting friends know about the doc. Also, follow us on twitter because, well, that's how we can tell you when new stuff happens.

Happy Sunday,

Update #6

Greetings from Seattle. Maya had her frozen embryo transfer yesterday. Fingers majorly crossed that this is the end of out movie. The clinic didn't allow me to shoot video but you can imagine how glorious and beautiful the moment was! Actually, it's just a few seconds and looks rather similar to the last transfer we did. Once the patient is off bed rest, I'm going to do a quick interview with her. She's in good spirits and so am I.

In post-production news, our awesome editors are cutting away. It's going to be tough for me to step away and let them do their thing but in a project like this it's not always best to be this close to the material. A good editor will find an interesting moment or scene that didn't seem important when we lived it and can make it a strong piece of the overall film. I'm excited to see the bits of gold the mine from two years of footage.

That's the latest. Website should be up in full this week. Indiegogo campaign is on its way, too.

Update #5

We are getting closer to the official launch of the website, which explains why it has been working intermittently if you've stopped by to check things out. Goal is to be up for real this coming week. The indiegogo campaign will launch in mid-July.

In other news, Marqus, our ASsociate Editor, is putting the final touches on organizing all of the footage (more than two years' worth). We'll be cutting the doc from four different locations so Marqus's workflow will allow us to work independently while still being able to collaborate with each other. Yay, technology.

Update #4

We had our first full team meeting earlier this week and everybody came away ready to jump on this project full force. We're going to tweak our Indiegogo welcome video slightly but are still looking to launch our fundraising campaign on July 7,  assuming all goes well. It's been really cool to see a group of people with very different backgrounds and experiences come together and rally behind this project. We've got an awesome team and I'm excited to show you what we come up with.
